Daniel Carter

Candidate for Marion County Mayor

My name is Daniel Carter and I am running for County Mayor of Marion County.

I was born and raised in Marion County and attended Marion County High School. Many may know my wife, Rachel, who works as a physical therapist with Southern Rehab in Kimball. We have two boys, Ollie and Harry, that some of you may remember from all the years playing youth sports in Marion County. I am a second-generation cattle and sheep farmer, while also working as professor at the University of the South at Sewanee for the past 18 years. I teach multiple courses on land-use and public policy.

I have a Master’s degree in Public Administration from American University in Washington, D.C. and spent a decade as a county government consultant in West Tennessee for the University of Tennessee’s County Technical Assistance Service, advising county elected officials on issues related to budgeting and finance, human resources, legal issues, planning, solid waste management, highways, jails, and law enforcement. I later earned a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Tennessee.
